Officer Hank Price & Cowboy

Officer Hank Price & Cowboy

Officer Hank Price has served as a St Paul Police Officer since 1999. He loves serving in the Mounted Unit due to his love of horses and the constant training and learning involved.

Officer Hank Price and Cowboy

Cowboy is a tri-colored Paint, gelding. His coat and hair consists of white, brown, and black. He has served the St Paul Police since 2008. His favorite activity on his off time is galloping and jumping. Horses are vegetarians who’s primary diet consists of water, hay, and oats. Cowboy’s favorite treat is apples.

Officer Jennifer Mink & Jett

Officer Jennifer Mink joined the Mounted Unit in 2014. Jen says that working with the Mounted Unit has been a dream come true. As a kid, Jen saved her pennies to take horseback riding lessons. She loves the Mounted Unit because it allows her to work special events and have a closer relationship with the citizens of St. Paul. This photo was taken at a demo at the 2015 Horse Expo. Jett and Jen are wearing their protective Mobile Field Force uniform.

Officer Jen Mink and Jett

Jett is a 18 yr old Appendix Quarter Horse. He began his police career with the Houston, TX Mounted Unit Dec 2000. He came to St Paul in 2004 because he preferred the cooler climate. Jett is an exceptional police horse. He loves working the street and his favorite treats are apples and donuts.


Officer Andrew Lewis & Chase

Officer Andrew Lewis & Chase

Officer Andrew Lewis has been with the St. Paul Police Department since 2001. He became a member of the mounted unit in 2004, and now is the head trainer of the mounted Unit. In addition, he also serves as a use of force and firearms instructor for the department. He has a political science degree from the University of Iowa and has served four years in the United States Army as an Airborne Ranger.

Officer Andy Lewis and Chase

Chase is a Belgian Draft horse who has served the department since 2008. Belgian horses are the largest breed of horse in the world. Chase is the largest horse the department has ever owned, weighing in at an amazing twenty one hundred pounds.


Officer Chris Hoyt & Javier

Officer Chris Hoyt & Javier

Officer Chris Hoyt has been a police officer since 1992 and began his career with St Paul in 2000.
Officer Hoyt has worked patrol in the East and Central districts and was a Motors officer before Joining the Mounted Patrol. Officer Hoyt looks forward to a future retirement of owning a Dude Ranch for traveling families.

Officer Chris Hoyt and Javier

Javier is an Appaloosa/Quarter horse mix, 16.2 Hands. He joined the St Paul unit in 2012. He is a very curious horse and loves to snack on apples and carrots.


Officer Mat Jones & King

Officer Mat Jones & King

Officer Mat Jones joined the St Paul Police Department in 2009 as a parking enforcement officer.  In 2011 he completed the police academy and was assigned to The Eastern District on midnight shift where he has worked for the past 3 years.  Officer Jones joined the Mounted Patrol in 2015.  Officer Jones is trained as a Forensic Services Officer and skilled at computer related technologies.  In his spare time, Officer Jones loves learning random trivia facts, reading non-fiction books and riding his motorcycle.

Officer Mat Jones and King

King is one of our favorite horses, He is a Belgian and weighs 2000lbs and is one of our biggest horses, 17 hands. He is the alpha of the heard and has been with the Mounted Patrol since 2004. His favorite treat is carrot cake muffins.


Officer Tommy Handwerk & Rascal

Officer Tommy Handwerk & Rascal

Officer Tommy Handwerk has been a police officer since 2005 and started with the St. Paul Police Department in 2009. He joined the Mounted Patrol Unit in 2013 and loves to come to work and enjoys his days patrolling with Rascal. On his days off, Officer Handwerk loves to be at home with his family and ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle down Mississippi River Road.

Officer Handwerk’s partner is Rascal.  Rascal is a 12 year old Oldenburg.  Rascal has been with the Mounted Patrol Unit since 2013.  Rascal is still the “new guy” in the unit and we’re still teaching him the ropes.  Rascal is a very athletic horse and loves to jump.  Rascal’s favorite treats are Granny Smith apples.
