The St. Paul Police Department is seeking to acquire horses for the Mounted Unit.

Candidates for consideration should be:

  • Geldings
  • At least 16 hands
  • Have a calm temperament
  • Comfortable with being placed in a trailer

SPPD Horses being stabled at Como Zoo are not retired

The St. Paul Police Department has entered into an agreement to stable the unit's horses at the Majestic Pines Stables located in Afton, Minnesota.

The St. Paul Mounted Police Unit is seeking to acquire a horse to replace Chase. In general, the requirements are a minimum of 16 hands, from 8 to 12 years of age, a calm temperament with no issues with behiing shod or trailering. The St. Paul Mounted Police Foundation has commited funds to facilitate the purchase of a horse by the SPPD.

The St. Paul Mounted Police Foundation raises funds to support the St. Paul Mounted Police Unit.  The Unit actively participates in crime prevention, suppression and enforcement all year round. It also is involved with educating and interacting with the public to build and maintain strong relations between the Police Department and the community. The Mounted Unit consists of 6 full time officers and 6 horses.

The St. Paul Mounted Police Foundation raises funds to support the St. Paul Mounted Police Unit.  The Mounted Unit’s participates in crime etc.

The St. Paul Mounted Police Foundation is an operating division of the St. Paul Police K-9 Foundation (which supports the K-9 Unit of the St. Paul Police Department), a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization.  The St. Paul Mounted Police Foundation seeks to provide financial support to the Mounted Unit to cover costs of equipment and training not paid for the St. Paul Police Department.  Your tax deductible contribution will assist us in those efforts.
